Tomorrow I will be heading off to my parents.

I am really looking forward to exploring different ways we can use popcorn over the coming year. I may sound a little obsessive but that is probably because I am. I like making new flavours, creating new combinations of foods that you wouldn't normally see.

In the new year I will also be trying some of the recipes that I posted in earlier blogs and trying to make some of my own. I have the idea of lemon and honey sounds like a nice spring type flavouring for popcorn.

I hope you all have a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Me xx

Merry Christmas from Popcorn Planet

Now we are near the Christmas holidays I have been looking at Christmas Popcorn! What better way to spend the Christmas holidays watching a movie and munching on some yummy snacks.

Because it is Christmas, popcorn deserves a Christmassy makeover. There are lots of options around and it can be fun to play around with various flavours but one of my favourites is that brought forward by Jamie Oliver.

He takes Bay leaves, orange, lemon juice and winter spices, such a cinnamon and vanila and blends them together to make a spiced sugar. It is then possible to just combine this with your popcorn for a lovely festive treat.

www.jamieoliver.com/recipes/vegetarian-recipes/spiced-sugar-christmas-popcorn

I also love this idea which is mixture of popcorn with other types of snacks. While the recipe has been put together for St Patricks day it certainly can be made into a Christmassy festive snack.

I have yet to make this but it looks a delicious mix of pretzels, popcorn, white chips for melting (vanilla or white chocolate), chocolate chips for melting; peanuts, M&M's.

www.theyummylife.com/blog/2011/03/156/Green+Popcorn+%26+Pretzel+Party+Mix+-+A+festive%2C+sweet+%26+salty+recipe

My final mixture for the holidays comes from the same website called The Yummy Life. Looks to be a great website with lots of ideas and information. This recipe is similar as the one above but uses a different mixture of colours.

www.theyummylife.com/blog/2011/02/136/Pretty-in-Pink+Popcorn+Party+Mix

Merry Christmas everyone!

In the next blog I will be looking at Christmas decorations you can make from popcorn! :-)

Flavoured Popcorn

The other day I wrote about flavoured popcorn. I knew about about salt, sugar and toffee but after doing research on the internet I am amazed at the shear amount of popcorn flavours available to buy.

For example over at The Popcorn Place in Orlando they make over 100 different flavours of popcorn in various 'courses' including savoury ones - cheese, hot wings, and sweet ones such as blueberry, banana, watermelon and more. They even do extra special flavours including S'more which are "Marshmallow popcorn, hand drizzled with premium chocolate and sprinkled with graham crackers" and Nutmania which are "Our old-fashion caramel popcorn with peanuts, cashews, almonds, brazil nuts, hazelnuts and pecans". Nom Nom!

Would seriously love to have a shop in the UK that produced such flavours of popcorn! I then saw that it was possible to order online and you can even order a basket of popcorn for a very good price. I wonder if they deliver to the UK? :-p

Find more about the Popcorn Place at http://www.popcornplaceorlando.com/

There are many other shops with interesting flavours that I will be exploring and writing about but for now I am popping out of here!

Have a good day all!

Take care

Popcorn Planet

x

What to eat your popcorn from!

No good having popcorn if we don't have anything to put in it. My aim will be to bring you all cool things to do with popcorn. Want to decorate your house in popcorn wallpaper, want to find popcorn makers or simply want to eat some popcorn? Then follow my blog's and I will share with you what I have found.

Firstly let us introduce Popcorn.

What is popcorn?
Popcorn is basically corn, that has been heated up causing it to..well... pop. Basically the outside of the corn is hard, but the inner section is starchy and dense. When heated the pressure inside the kernel until it explodes.

When was it invented?
Popcorn was invented thousands of years ago in North America by native Americans. It then became popular due to it's low cost and in the war became a good alternative to candy and sweets which had been rationed.

How is it served?
Popcorn can be served with either sugar or salt, making it either a sweet or savoury snack. It also can come in a number of other flavours including toffee.
